The Women Behind Food Rescue
For Women's History Month, we spoke with four incredible women whose work, spirit, and talent have been fundamental to the development of our Food Rescue program. Their tireless and passionate work to bring nutritious food to neighbors in need inspires us every day. We hope you enjoy the stories of Val Stone, Sharron Zimmerman, Becky Mang, and Trish Fiebing!
Food Rescue by Becky Mang
Baby boomers like me would agree that by growing up in post World War II America, we were part of the first generation of Americans introduced not to just a new, more modern way of living, but to a brand new way of eating. Families that for generations had been part of a strong family farming tradition, and scratch cooking, were sold on a brand new food culture.
Empty Bowls, Full Trucks & Full Hearts
In the past year, Food Rescue has rescued, harvested, repacked, and distributed nearly 2 million pounds of food into our region’s emergency food system, serving a five-county region twice the size of Rhode Island. That's enough food to make 1.6 million meals! At this time of year, we normally gather together for a meal at the Empty Bowls event and take a moment to think about our neighbors whose bowls are empty.
Covid-19 Safety
Goodwill stores and donation centers across Michigan are working together to ensure the health and safety of shoppers, donors and employees.
