Grand Opening of New Store in Petoskey Marks Milestone for Goodwill Northern Michigan

Goodwill Northern Michigan is pleased to announce the highly-anticipated opening of a new Goodwill store in Petoskey at 2154 Anderson Rd, a short distance from the previous Goodwill Petoskey location. The Petoskey community and Goodwill fans are invited to join Goodwill Northern Michigan board members and staff in celebrating the milestone at a ribbon cutting at the new store at 8:45 am on Tuesday, September 26

Why it Matters

Building the new store in Petoskey underscores Goodwill Northern Michigan's commitment to doing good in the Petoskey community.

  • Shoppers will find a bright Up North thrift store filled with everyday good values on quality brands.

  • Donors will enjoy a covered donation area for quick and easy donating.

  • Community members will find good jobs with good benefits.

  • Most important: all purchases and donations at the store support Goodwill Northern Michigan programs like Patriot Place and Good Partner Vouchers.

Immediate Impact

Moving to the new store will boost Goodwill Northern Michigan's capacity to serve Emmet and Charlevoix county area through community programs that serve vulnerable families and neighbors:

  • Every year, Goodwill provides $100,000 in free store vouchers to neighbors facing emergencies in Emmet and Charlevoix counties. Partnering with organizations like Manna, Big Brothers Big Sisters, North Country CMH, Harbor Hall, Networks Northwest, the Nehemiah Project, NMCAA, and the Community Recovery Alliance, Goodwill Northern Michigan allows Petoskey-area neighbors in need to select clothing and household items from its stores at no cost to the client or partner agencies.

  • Every day, Goodwill Northern Michigan serves the veterans of Emmet, Charlevoix, and other Northern Michigan counties at Patriot Place housing community for veterans transitioning from homelessness to permanent housing in Gaylord.

  • In the past three years, 170 families and individuals from Emmet and Charlevoix counties moved from homelessness into housing through the work of the Northwest Michigan Coalition to End Homelessness, a group of agencies Goodwill works with to help people find home

Background

Goodwill Northern Michigan has been an integral part of the Petoskey community for 15 years, most recently operating in a leased facility in Bear Creek Plaza. Owning its new space will allow Goodwill to hire additional employees and provide a better shopping, donating, and working experience. The generosity of Emmet, Charlevoix, and surrounding counties has been instrumental to Goodwill’s success.

“We are immensely grateful to the Petoskey community for their long-time support of Goodwill Northern Michigan's work. Petoskey’s generosity has allowed us to take this significant step in improving our services and expanding our impact. We look forward to continuing our journey together, creating a stronger community for everyone."
