Section 8 Assistance

What is Section 8 Assistance?
Section 8 is a federally funded rental assistance program designed to help families pay their rent. It enables renters participating in this program to rent from private landlords as well as from low-income apartments.

Who is eligible?
Families with children, the elderly (over 62), and the disabled. Eligibility is also dependent upon your income. Homeless and displaced persons may receive a preference on the waiting lists.

How does Section 8 Work?
If you are eligible to take part, a portion of your rent will be paid directly to your landlord every month. The part of the rent that you pay yourself is based on your adjusted family income and the number of people in your family. Typically, the total amount you pay for rent and utilities combined generally will not exceed 30% of your adjusted family income. It is essentially a voucher program.

How do I Apply for Section 8?
